Name: Mia / aka Momma Mia
About Me: 15 years old, Sorrel Mare at 34"
and a Miniature Horse.
My Story: Mia came to Hands On Horses via the
Agoura Hills Animal Shelter at the end of February.  She was already pregnant and had an 8 month filly still at her side.  A miniature horse sanctuary adopted her filly and I brought her home.
She, Lola and quite a few other animals were confiscated from a ranch and ended up at the animal shelter.  I got a notice from AdoptAPet.com and couldn't resist taking a drive to see this adorable miniature.  She is beautiful and when I first met her, she just seemed so tired.  She was carrying around all this weight and her filly was still nursing.  As luck would have it, she just jumped into the horse trailer and was ready to start her new life.  At first she seemed a little shy and quiet but really has quite the personality and is an amazing escape artist.  Sometimes she'll escape from a sun pen and then just stand there like "I did it" and turn around and want to go right back in.  She is quite the vocal one and that little, high pitched whinny is a beautiful sound.  There will be Facebook updates and website updates when her foal is born.

Name: Henley
About Me: 18 years old, Chestnut Gelding at 16.3
hands.  Part Thoroughbred / Part
Shire Draft Horse.
My Story: Henley came to Hands On Horses via Brenda Outwater.  "I met Henley eight years ago when he was a lesson horse at Traditional Equitation School.  He was on stall rest after surgery for a chronic lameness.  I parked in front of his stall every day and visited with him before I went to take care of my children's ponies."  After a few months, it was determined that he would never stay sound enough to make it in the lesson program.  He was adopted by the Outwater Family.  He stayed sound enough to be ridden 1 or 2 times a week on and off until recently.  Now he's ready to just be hand walked and brushed and hugged.  He's a great listener and he has a special spot near his withers that if you scratch, you can get him to da anything.  Henley says that he is here at Hands On Horses for the scratches and treats as well as the ooooo's and awwwww's because he is oh, so incredibly handsome.

My Story:  Lola also came to Hands On Horses via the Agoura Hill Animal Shelter at the end of February.  How do you say 'no' to that face.  Miraculously, she too jumped right into the trailer when it was time to leave.  We got to the Equestrian Center and put her in her stall and took off her halter.  Well...it took us a few days to get it back on.  Not sure if she was even halter broke at the time.  It was hard to catch her and she took me for many walks in the beginning.  But now I can just walk into her stall, put her halter on and she hand walks like an old pro.  If she's turned out in the arena, I just have to call her and she comes running.  You can brush her now and she will even pick up her feet.  This little girl has more personality than almost any horse that I've ever known.  She's playful...she's loving...she's very cuddly.
