VHT, or 'Vibromuscular Harmonization Technique' is a gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on soft tissue bodywork to treat physical injuries and ailments as well as optimising emotional health and general well-being. It works directly on the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body, as well as the lymphatic system and nervous system. Developed by Jock Ruddock in 1997, VHT was initially seen as an advanced form of Bowen - the remedial therapy which stimulates the body to re-balance itself and promotes healing, pain relief and recovery of energy - but is now recognised as a respected form of bodywork within its own right. Although the principles of Bowen and VHT are similar, VHT is a unique modality which has a profound effect on a wide variety of symtons. VHT works through a combination of soft tissue release and the correction of the Chi energy in the body. The practitioner performs pre-determined sequences of moves over specific points of the body, using their thumbs and fingers. Light pressure is applied to stimulate the tissue before gentle vibrational moves are performed, which provide the 'release', allowing the tissue to return to its 'correct' position.
During any VHT session the whole body will be treated, regardless of the complaint, in order to 'balance' and restore health, then specific moves are used to address the problem areas. VHT aims to re-balance the body as a whole, and kick start the innate healing system of the body, in order to promote general health and well-being as well as addressing specific complaints. VHT is suitable for both men and women, as well as children. It is safe and effective for everyone, from newborns to the elderly. It can be performed directly on the skin, or if preferred, through light clothing. A normal session will last between 45 minutes and an hour, sometimes longer if necessary for the individual case. VHT does not use any forceful adjustments or manipulations and works in complete harmony with the body. It involves a very subtle 'move', and as a result is extremely gentle. It enables the body to heal itself and helps to rebalance; relax; relieve tension and reduce pain. The benefits of this unique technique really do have to be felt to be believed.
