A typical session will involve taking a detailed history of the animal, to involve all their medical history, as well as their work load, any significant events in their past etc, as well as seeing them move. This could be simply walked/trotted up, or depending on the reason for my visit, could involve lungeing, or where necessary, seeing the horse ridden.

Following this, a thorough examination of all the joints and major muscles groups is performed. Gentle palpation and manipulation of the joints are used to feel for muscle tension, heat, soreness. restriction of movements in the joints, bone misalignments, heat, inflammation and pain. As these techniques are non-diagnostic they work on the history given and the pain found on examination. A basic body balance will always be performed to ensure the whole body is treated in every session, and once the areas of concern have been determined, specific moves and adjustments are performed on these areas to relieve the symptoms.

At the end of the session, stretches will be performed on all the limbs and finally post treatment care and remedial exercises will be discussed with the owner to ensure they can help their animal as much as possible.

I very much believe in treating the cause and not the symptom of a problem, which is why I treat the entire body in every session, as the symptoms an animal is displaying are not always where the source of the problem lies.
